ハルカトミユキ (Haruka to Miyuki) - Vanilla
Vanilla (translation) – Taken from their first EP, this is my favorite and will probably remain till they can come up with another track to outdo this. This is a mid-tempo track that began with just acoustic guitar (very nice melody and somewhat nostalgic) and Haruka’s vocal is crystal clear (like YUI’s). The subject of the song is a fragile one. She sings about being in a low point in her life when she compares herself to garbage/trash on the kitchen floor cold as death. To compare yourself to trash is really really sad. No matter how low I get in my life, as of yet, I haven’t even considered myself as pitiful as trash (just my thought). Then, she sings about how she mustn’t go crazy or break down no matter how lonely she is and that her old self which she refers to as ‘kudaranai’ or worthless/useless self but she wants to be able to forgive that. This song hits me in the guts in some ways because of the lyrics mainly. Haruka mentioned in an interview there was a period of time when she was at a low point in her life and she couldn’t bring herself to write music at all. Nothing came to her. I’m guessing this song might have been born from that experience. Then the track became something that gave her back confidence.
Rating: 5/5 Perfect score. Nuff said. Oh and you gotta watch the video too. I hope they make more of these kind of song in the future. - from Ritsu no Haven
